The Papal Nuncio to Zimbabwe, Archbishop Marek Zalewiski bade farewell to the Church in Zimbabwe at a special dinner he organized for the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops.

The dinner that was hosted at the Nunciature in Harare on 06 June 2018 was attended by all active Bishops including two Emeritus Bishops Archbishop Pius Ncube of Bulawayo and Alexio Churu Muchabaiwa of Mutare. The former Director for the Inter-Regional Meeting of Bishops of Sothern Africa (IMBISA), Fr. Richard Menatse, now based in Mtata Diocese of South Africa was also present.

In his farewell speech Archbishop Zalewski praised the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops and the Catholic Church in Zimbabwe for their cooperation and collaboration in preaching the Gospel. He said he felt at home and will miss Zimbabwe with its good people as he goes to be the Apostolic Nuncio of Singapore and Vietnam.

“I enjoyed staying and working in Zimbabwe where a lot of developments took place including the appointment of three Bishops, Rt. Rev. Paul Horan of Mutare, Rt. Rev. Rudolf Nyandoro of Gokwe and Rt. Rev. Raymond Mupandasekwa of Chinhoyi,” said Archbishop Zalewski.

Archbishop Alex Thomas thanked the outgoing Nuncio and wished him well as he goes to serve in Singapore. He said Archbishop Zalewski was efficient and dedicated in carrying out his duties in the past four years of his stay in Zimbabwe.
“The Church in Zimbabwe enjoyed working with you as an efficient, approachable and friendly person dedicated to your duty. We hope to remain united in prayer as you undertake your new responsibility,” Archbishop Thomas said.
