Catholic Church joins Covid-19 prayer and fasting

Church leaders from different denominations and various government officials attended the historic presidential prayer and fasting day including our own Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference represented by ZCBC Secretary General, Fr. Fradereck Chiromba, Frs. Phillip Kembo, Mgcini Moyo, Kennedy Muguti, Fidelis Mukonori, Emanuel Ribeiro and Sr. Salome Mateko. Also present was Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Council of Churches and other religions such as Moslems and Hindus.

In his keynote address the president expressed his most gratitude to the people of Zimbabwe especially church leaders for joining to intercede for Zimbabwe’s political and economic turmoil and to pray ask God to spare the country from the devastating effects of Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to journalists after the closing prayer, Fr. Kembo who is the Catholic Parliamentary Coordinator urged the nation to abide with WHO regulations in the fight against COVID-19.

 “I want to advice all the Christians abide with World Health Organisation recommendations and regulations such as washing of hands, social distancing and staying at home which is very vital in this circumstance. As the Church we should not be agencies of spreading the virus but help in all way possible to reduce and eradicate it”, said Fr Kembo.
