Missionary Daughters of Calvary Sisters elect new leadership with emphasis on safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults

From the 6th to the 16th of December 2022, the Missionary Daughters of Calvary of the Zimbabwe Province held their Chapter to evaluate the life of their congregation and to choose the next leadership that will guide the Sisters for the next 5 years.

It is during this special meeting that Sr. Justina Banda emerged as the Provincial Superior for the Daughters of Calvary with the former Novice Mistress, Sr. Jennifer Sibanda being elected as Vicar Provincial Superior while Sr. Angelina Munkuli was elected Councillor. Sr. Munkuli was formerly working at the Diocesan Shrine in Gokwe.

The main aim of this important meeting was to review the mission of the congregation for a better living of the institute’s charism so as to offer better service, taking into account Jesus Christ’s example of suffering for and with the poor.

The meeting also passed some resolutions that will help the Daughters of Calvary members to lead a life worth of their vocation. The new Provincial Sr. Banda, said there was need to intensify and align the Sisters’ service to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

“Another important resolution is to upscale our pastoral involvement in the Dioceses that we work in as well as to promote conservation of natural resources in line with Pope Francis’ Laudato Si,” Sr. Banda said.

The Daughters of Calvary Sisters have their headquarters in Hwange Diocese where they are engaged in different apostolates that drive the mission of the Church. They are also found in Gokwe Diocese and the Archdiocese of Harare. The Zimbabwe Province comprises of Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique and Zambia with a total of 110 professed Sisters, 5 Novices and two postulants.
