THE coordinator of Social Communications (SOCCOM) in Hwange Fr Vincent Lumano has challenged the commission members to always report truthfully to help build a responsible church and society.

Fr Lumano said this while leading Mass for SOCCOM members from Binga, Hwange and Victoria Falls deaneries at All Souls Mission in Binga on Sunday.

The SOCCOM team was at Tusimpe Pastoral Centre in Binga between 2 and 4 February for a training workshop organised by Binga Deanery.

In his Homily Fr Lumano implored SOCCOM members to use everything at their disposal to make available the word of God.

“As communicators we ought to tell the truth and not manipulate it. The decree on social communications is there to help us to use our gadgets properly. We need to leave our territories to go and look for good news and communicate as it is,” he said.

Fr Lumano implored the SOCCOM team to strive to add value to their communities including the church.

He said they should share with one another what they ought to communicate.

Like Jesus sending his disciples after leaving the synagogue, when He sent them to go out and preach, Fr Lumano reiterated the need for SOCCOM members to be active in reporting in their various parishes and missions.

Fr Lumano said the Mass was also meant to pray for the Missionary Childhood (MC).

The Mother Church chose the 5th Sunday of the year as a day for MCs as a consecrated life.

“We can use MCs to make the gospel known. Let’s use everything we have including the little children to communicate. Let’s imitate the children that we are praying for today,” he said.

He challenged SOCCOM writers to imitate the MCs theme: “Hearts on fire, feet on the move” which is drawn from the Gospel of Luke (Chapter 24:32).

“Let’s give ourselves time to go on a lonely place, we are here trying to advice, share with one another what we ought to communicate. Let’s ask the Lord to give us zeal and grace to continue our work, spreading the gospel and availing ourselves like little children,” added Fr Lumano.
